Light Manipulation. Haruka absorbs sunlight through her skin during the day and her body stores and converts the light into energy that she can redistribute through her skin in various forms, from light sparkles to a concentrated beam. She is also capable of forming shapes with her light, although she's not tapped into this ability, yet.

H I S T O R Y ;

Haruka Ishida was born December 3rd, 1979, although if you ask her she was born in 1977. She grew up in Osaka, Japan, the daughter of revered surgeons. Her parents were always distant to their daughter, too busy to bother to nurture their own flesh and blood, looking for new and effective ways to patch up other people. She was raised mostly by staff in her family's employ, and taught that she was just a decoration in the household, and when her family was entertaining guests, she was to be seen only.

Being a fairly spirited youth from her beginnings, this was almost impossible for Haruka come her teenage years, so she removed herself from her family's presence permanently. She withdrew every penny she had in her personal account, packed her bags, and flew to America before her parents could even put out a flag that she'd gone missing. Not that she thought they'd even bother. She imagined she'd arrive in Hollywood and find a name for herself, become something better than what her parents wanted for her, showing them up in every way she possibly could.

Once she found her way to LA, though, it was harder than she imagined. She struggled, first to create a new identity for herself, then to find an agent willing to work with a Japanese girl who had a very thick accent and had very little prior acting experience. Eventually she found someone, although it wasn't exactly what she'd been hoping for. At sixteen, with a fake ID stating she was 18, she starred in her first pornography shoot on the internet. It was mortifying, at first, but the more she worked, the more she became used to it. The other actresses were kind to her, because she was new, because her English wasn't perfect, and she grew as an actress, and as a star. In her early career she was central to several Lolita websites and a few movies, but as she grew older, and her body matured (which it shouldn't have, as she was "18" so she lied and said she'd had surgery to get more adult roles) she featured in more heavy erotica, less frills and girlporn. By the time she was in fact 18 she had enough of the false sex and the life of the whole situation and started trying to pull in serious roles on shows where she was able to keep her clothing on. However, she didn't manage to get much work as far as that went, aside from the occasional background character or a few episodes on a soap.

So she found other means of work, and started waitressing, and later bartending in various bars over the LA scene. It was during this time (about a year ago, now) she discovered her abilities, while walking home from work, she was jumped by muggers.

She began to feel uncomfortably warm, to the point of collapse, and couldn't fight them off very effectively. When she shoved at the chest of one of her assailants, a burst of energy shot from her hand, and burnt a hole in his shirt, as well as sending him across the street. Her attackers retreated quickly after that.

Since then, she's practiced her abilities and is at a point where she has them roughly under control, although it's not a perfect science, and is bartending at her latest job.

After discovering she was a Seal, she sort of grudgingly accepted it, surprised she wasn't the only one reluctant to push into the 'End of the World' business. She somehow ended up the Leader of the Seals, being sort of organized, although she still doesn't think she's particularly driven. She does her best though, because despite how retarded some of the people she's working with are, they're starting to grow on her, as are other people around the community.

P E R S O N A L I T Y ;

At first glance, Haruka can come off as a cynical, negative, slightly bitchy, although extremely attractive young woman. She likes giving off this air, because it's how she feels in control of the situation. She is a strong, capable woman who is not afraid of much and will say whatever is on her mind unless it is severely personal.

Despite her loudness, and her bitchiness, and her rudeness, she's a private person when it comes to her own emotions. She can have sex with anyone and that'll be fine. She's a healthy woman, she doesn't limit herself, although she doesn't exactly put out to every guy on a street corner. When it comes to knowing the actual person beneath the bitchiness and cynicism, that takes a bit of effort. She doesn't talk much (read: never) about her family, it's a Big Deal if she invites someone into her home, and do try to avoid bringing up anything about her past, she doesn't like it.

People who consider Haruka a friend would describe her as slightly frightening, but capable of being kind-hearted. She is a Seal, and there is a reason for that. She's compassionate, when you get past all her other layers, and a little bit mothering. The people who are able to get close to her are important, because there's been so few people like that in her life. She will stand up for their right to be fucked up human beings, and she will die for it, without hesitation.
